AI-PRISM celebrated the General Assembly in Spain

The AI-PRISM team recently held their General Assembly at the Garaia Technological Park in Arrasate, Spain from May 16-18, 2023. The event, hosted by Ikerlan, lasted three days and was highly productive in strategizing the next steps for the Horizon EU Project. With 37 physical attendees and almost 20 online participants, everyone was able to share relevant information among the partners and be on the same page.

On the first day, the meeting focused on each Work Package’s objectives, progress, milestones, and future activities. Ana Gonzalez Segura from NTTData Spain, the Project Coordinator, moderated the session and each Work Package Leader presented a comprehensive overview of their work. Francisco Fraile, the Technical Manager from the Polytechnical University of Valencia (UPV), highlighted the significant efforts required to achieve the project’s technical objectives as the first year approached in September. The technical team organized a workshop on Technical Specifications within AI-PRISM’s demonstrators. To end the first day on a high note, the AI-PRISM team visited Vitoria, the capital of the Basque Country in Spain.

On the second day of the General Assembly, the team discussed the requirements collected during visits to five demonstrators, including data management and ethical/legal aspects. Each industrial partner presented the necessary components for collaboration between humans and robots, while other partners provided feedback for implementing human-centred and AI-based solutions. These conversations were crucial for planning WP6, which focuses on demonstrating and validating the AI-PRISM system in real industrial environments.

After several hours of discussion and presentations, the AI-PRISM team visited partner Ikerlan’s Arrasate facility, getting to know the UR-10 COBOT and KUKA iiwa commercial collaborative robots. Then, the Technological Institute of Informatics (ITI) also discussed ethical and legal aspects regarding data management. Project Coordinator, Ana Gonzalez Segura concluded the meeting by emphasizing the importance of working hard on deliverables, tasks, and technical developments while prioritizing dissemination in scientific conferences and journals and maintaining clear communication among team members. The second day ended with a city tour where partners explored interesting regional sites.

On the third day of the meeting, we focused on the technical aspects of the project, specifically WP4. The UPV leads WP4, which aims to enhance the perception and reasoning abilities of robotic agents through AI-based modules. This work package will provide continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD) pipelines and infrastructure to support the development, integration, and validation of AI-based solutions in AI-PRISM. This provides partners with the opportunity to explore data and algorithms and identify needs for demonstrators, sensors, tracking activities, target journals, and dissemination videos.

Overall, the General Assembly was a successful meeting where we planned future strategies and worked together as a team to continue developing an ecosystem of collaboration and cooperation between humans and robots in manufacturing environments, where tasks can be challenging to automate, and speed and versatility are essential.
