In today’s world, alliances among regions are key to tackling global challenges and achieving shared goals. As a European project, AI-PRISM is not the exception. It confirms that we can work with Asian partners, such as Korea, for the mutual benefit of our regions in areas such as education, science and technology, and climate change.
Cooperation with the Asian country is a priority for the European Union as we share similar values and interests. This alliance has been established for more than 60 years, and an Agreement on the Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the EU and South Korea has been in force since 2007. Moreover, the EU-Korea Joint Science & Technology Cooperation Committee (JSTCC) takes place biennially. Through all these initiatives, so far, both sides have agreed to cooperate strongly in ICT, nanotechnology, health/bio, energy, and satellite navigation.
In the field of digitalization, we share information and ideas when it comes to the digital economy and regional innovation. Because of these commonalities, in 2022, the Republic of Korea expressed its formal interest in associating with Horizon Europe. This association is the closest form of international cooperation with the European Union in Research & Innovation. Horizon Europe opens it to countries with a strong STI capacity beyond Europe. With this instrument, we established long-standing common priority areas of intensified cooperation related to AI-PRISM and its mission to develop an ecosystem of human-robot collaboration, such as 5G, the Internet of Things and cloud and artificial intelligence.
Thanks to this association, which represents a milestone in the research and innovation cooperation with the Republic of Korea, AI-PRISM has the privilege to count on partners such as the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and A&G Technology Co. They both support our use case in the home appliances manufacturing industry; the former works in the research and development of human factors, and the latter in the quality control of the human-robot collaborative stations.
From now on, our Korean colleagues and allies can find relevant information about AI-PRISM in their mother tongue. As a first step, you can read our launch press release in Korean here.
Stay tuned to meet our Korean partners this month!
