The AI-PRISM consortium holds the necessary expertise to strategically improve the EU Smart manufacturing value chain in four domains: collaborative environment, robot perception and recognition, robot programming and human factors. We are working to achieve a suitable trade-off between complementary and overlapping among the industrial partners.
At the frontline of our Human centred collaborative robotic platform, we have the honour to count on partner Ikerlan S. COOP (IKERLAN). It is a renowned technology center that contributes competitive and valuable knowledge to companies and helps transfer technology combining different domains in areas such as Electronics, Information and Communication Technologies (EICT), Energy and Mechatronics. Their expertise is essential in creating a system and infrastructure that enables existing solutions to integrate with new AI-based tools developed during the AI-PRISM project.
Founded in 1974, IKERLAN is a dynamic center based in Spain with a team made up of 400 people. They are a cooperative member of the MONDRAGON Corporation and the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA). Besides, they are accredited agents of the Basque Science, Technology, and Innovation Network and the Spanish Federation of Technology Centers (FEDER). At AI-PRISM, they lead our robotic framework, which is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS) and ensures real-time control-based architecture for integrating technological modules. The system is designed to simplify the task of enclosing different modules developed in the project and is open enough to allow the efficient and robust addition of new elements or modules.
Today they are sharing a video showcasing their mission to solve technological challenges, improve competitiveness, and contribute to sustainable economic and social development. Their vision is to become a technology center that is cooperative and not-for-profit, recognised as a European leader in specialisation with an exceptional and cohesive team that contributes value to companies and society. With their support, we hope to positively impact our stakeholders by digitalising the collaboration environment and interacting with it thanks to real-time communication networks and services.
IKERLAN’s robotic framework will develop or integrate the control architecture, hardware control and communication interfaces, ensuring compatibility and easy integration over multiple devices transparently for other developed or third-party modules. In addition, low-level control tools for further easy integration and synchronisation between agents and different controllers will be created.
At AI-PRISM, we implement Open Science Practices, enhancing scientific collaboration between academic and industrial stakeholders through the ROS platform that IKERLAN is developing. ROS provides stable packages and tools and tutorials for developing different robotic applications, which will decrease the risk of miscommunication between software components, increasing reliability and maturity. Therefore, implementing ROS solutions will be the backbone of our AI-enhanced modules, amongst other innovations.
