On December 10th, 2024 the Korea-EU Research Centre (KERC) and National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) co-hosted a webinar on the application process for Korean entities to participate in the Horizon Europe Pillar 2 (global challenges and European industrial competitiveness).
Over 350 Korean researchers (professors, national research institute members, research administrators, corporate R&D executives) attended the webinar.
This was a big event to help Korean researchers prepare for Horizon Europe Pillar 2 in 2025, with a Korean Horizon Europe Grant expert explaining step-by-step the application process. It went beyond previous Horizon Europe seminars in Korea by discussing specific challenges and key considerations for participating in European projects.
Three Horizon Europe participants shared their experiences to give attendees a more practical understanding of the benefits and obstacles of international collaboration.
AI-PRISM was showcased during the webinar, highlighting its AI for practical applications approach. The session presented AI-PRISM’s outcomes, activities and contributions to international collaboration, with a focus on Korea-Europe partnership. It emphasized the importance of complementary views, technology exchange and access to new markets for advancing AI research and innovation.
In a live survey, 44% of attendees had experience in international collaboration with Europe, while 34% had not taken part in international projects. The 66% of participants planned to apply for Horizon Europe.
The webinar ended with the introduction of various support mechanisms, the National Contact Points (NCP) system, Korea-EU research cooperation promotion Programme and other tools to help Korean participation in Horizon Europe.
The day before the webinar, KERC published case studies (Korean) showcasing the participation of Korean partners in Horizon Europe projects, where the story of AI-PRISM and the interview with the Project Coordinator (Ana Gonzalez Segura from NTT Data) are featured.
