AI-PRISM

AI-PRISM: from ideas to practical and impactful solutions – Interview with Ana Gonzalez Segura, Project Coordinator

Today, we sit down with Ana Gonzalez Segura, the Project Coordinator of AI-PRISM, to discuss the project’s progress, key innovations, and its impact on the future of AI-driven manufacturing. Since its launch over two years ago, AI-PRISM has been at the forefront of integrating AI into industrial settings, tackling challenges in predictive maintenance, decision-making, and human-robot collaboration. Under Ana’s leadership, the project has evolved to address the rapidly changing landscape of smart manufacturing, ensuring that AI solutions are adaptable, scalable, and ethically responsible. In this interview, Ana shares insights into the major achievements of AI-PRISM, how the project has adapted to market changes, and what’s next as it moves into its final phase.

Q: The AI-PRISM project started over two years ago. Can you share some of the major advancements and achievements made so far? What progress are you most proud of?

Over the past two years, the AI-PRISM project has made major progress in applying artificial intelligence to real-world problems. One of the biggest achievements has been building a flexible system that combines different AI technologies, such as predictive modeling, decision-making, and process optimization. This system can easily adapt and scale across industries like manufacturing, and logistics. Another key success has been testing AI-PRISM’s predictive analytics tools in real-world projects. These tools have delivered real benefits, like improving efficiency and helping people make better decisions.  One of the most important achievements is in ethical AI. AI-PRISM has created strong guidelines and tools to make sure AI systems are fair, transparent, and accountable. This helps solve one of the biggest challenges in AI adoption and builds trust among users.

Overall, we’re proud that AI-PRISM has moved beyond ideas and into practical solutions that make a real impact – all while following ethical principles and serving society’s needs.

Q: How has the project’s approach evolved to address the changing needs and challenges in the smart manufacturing sector, particularly with the rapid integration of AI and robotics?

The AI-PRISM project has continuously adjusted its approach to keep up with the changing needs of the smart manufacturing sector, especially as AI and robotics play a bigger role. In the beginning, the focus was on building basic AI tools for predictive maintenance, quality control, and process optimisation. But as manufacturing challenges became more complex, the project shifted toward developing complete AI solutions that integrate robotics, IoT, and data analytics.

A major advancement has been in making AI systems more adaptable and autonomous. For example, AI-PRISM has created smart systems that support real-time decision-making on the factory floor, such as intelligent scheduling and robot-human collaboration. These tools help manufacturers quickly adjust to supply chain disruptions, changing demand, and production slowdowns.

The project has also focused on making AI systems easy to integrate with existing robotics and industrial platforms. This modular approach allows manufacturers to adopt AI gradually rather than having to replace their entire setup at once.

Additionally, AI-PRISM has tackled one of the biggest hurdles in AI adoption—trust. By building explainability and ethical considerations into its systems, the project ensures that users can understand, monitor, and rely on AI-driven decisions. This has helped speed up adoption while also improving safety and compliance in highly automated environments.

In the end, AI-PRISM has evolved from working on individual AI tools to creating a connected, transparent, and flexible ecosystem that drives efficiency and innovation in smart manufacturing.

Q: What are some of the key innovations developed within AI-PRISM that are now being tested or deployed? How have these tools proven their value in enhancing decision-making and operational efficiency?

AI-PRISM has developed several key innovations that are now being tested and implemented, showing real improvements in decision-making and efficiency.

One major breakthrough is a predictive maintenance tool that analyzes equipment data in real time, cutting unplanned downtime in pilot projects. Another is an AI-powered resource optimization system that smartly manages workforce, machinery, and materials, increasing production efficiency while reducing waste. The project has also improved human-robot collaboration, making assembly lines safer and more efficient by reducing errors and improving coordination. Additionally, AI-powered decision-support tools that combine data from IoT sensors and market trends have improved inventory management and supply chain forecasting, helping businesses make faster and better decisions.

These innovations are only an example of the ones developed within AI-PRISM, and they have already delivered measurable benefits, such as an increase in production output during trials, proving their ability to solve real-world challenges and boost efficiency.

Q: When can we expect AI-PRISM tools to be presented to the public eye?

AI-PRISM tools will be introduced to the public in stages, with initial demonstrations and pilot results expected in the coming months. Right now, several tools are undergoing thorough testing in both controlled settings and real-world projects to ensure they are reliable, scalable, and ethically sound.

Once fully tested, these solutions will be showcased at industry events, published in reports, and shared through partnerships, giving stakeholders a firsthand look at their potential. This step-by-step approach ensures that each tool is fully optimized and ready to make a real impact before being released.

At the same time, the project is developing a strong strategy to bring AI-PRISM solutions to market, willing to make them available for widespread use.

Q: As the project moves forward, what are the final steps for AI-PRISM? What can we expect in terms of further impact on the European manufacturing landscape?

AI-PRISM is now in its final phase, focused on refining and scaling its tools for widespread use in Europe’s manufacturing sector. This includes thorough testing in different industrial environments to ensure the AI solutions are reliable, adaptable, and meet ethical and regulatory standards. The project is also developing training programs and resources to help businesses successfully adopt these technologies.

AI-PRISM is set to make a big impact by improving productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness in European manufacturing. By enabling smarter resource management, reducing waste, and strengthening supply chains, these tools will help manufacturers address global challenges while aligning with Industry 5.0 goals.

Another key focus is improving collaboration between human workers and AI, ensuring that innovation drives both economic growth and societal well-being. In the end, AI-PRISM’s lasting contribution will be a more agile, efficient, and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem for Europe.
