AI-PRISM Project Meeting in Athens: Moving Forward with AI-Powered Human-Robot Collaboration

The 4th Plenary Meeting of the AI-PRISM project, held on 25-26 February 2025 in Athens, provided a general overview of the project’s progress, ongoing research, and the future direction as the project moves towards its conclusion.

The event brought together consortium partners to discuss the development and integration of AI-enabled robotic systems, exchange principal findings from the pilot demonstrations, and consolidate plans for exploitation, dissemination, and standardisation. The event showcased the interdisciplinary nature of AI-PRISM, integrating artificial intelligence, human-robot interaction, and industrial automation to create enhanced efficiency, flexibility, and safety in collaborative working environments. Significant focus was placed on the pilot implementations, with partners reporting on use cases in a variety of industries, including furniture manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, and food processing.

Demonstrations showcased hardware and software integration highlighting developments in robotic learning, defect detection, and adaptive workstations. The discussion also covered challenges in system validation, particularly in defining and quantifying key performance indicators (KPIs) for capturing the impact of AI-PRISM solutions. Partners spoke about the need for harmonised validation methods in order for AI-based systems to be able to function smoothly across different industrial environments. In addition to technical progress, the meeting also discussed exploitation plans and collaboration opportunities.

Business models and market uptake session emphasised how important it was to match project outcomes to the needs of industries so that there is sustainability in the long term.

Standardisation activities were also discussed, with a mention of possible future publications related to ethics in AI and aspects of human-robot collaboration (CEN/CENELEC Workshop Agreements). The workshop reiterated AI-PRISM’s commitment to bridging research and industry application gaps, with a focus on advancing its open-access pilot platform, fostering international cooperation, and accelerating knowledge dissemination. As the project is coming to its concluding phase, the outcome of this meeting will decide its ultimate efforts towards validation, knowledge transfer, and plans for commercialisation.
